Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)
Muscle weakness and atrophy are prevalent among neuromusculoskeletal rehabilitation patients, causing delayed return to functional activity.
EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) is the process of using external methods to stimulate your muscles and replicate the messages sent from your brain. It is used for rehabilitation purposes, for instance in physical therapy in the prevention of muscle atrophy due to inactivity or neuromuscular imbalance, which can occur for example after musculoskeletal and neurological injuries or pathology.
